South Bay Grading is a Bay Area-based heavy civil contractor and estimating consulting firm. We specialize in Class A General Engineering services, including grading, excavation, and site work. We work directly with contractors who are ready to compete for bigger projects and build businesses that last.
We operate on two fronts. As a general engineering contractor, we self-perform and manage complex field operations from start to finish, sourcing the right subcontractors, overseeing execution, and delivering projects on time, on budget, and to spec. As a consulting and estimating firm, we work side by side with contractors to sharpen their bids, strengthen their operations, and position them to win work they never thought was within reach.
After 45 years in the field, our founder Shawn Dean had seen the same story play out too many times. Skilled, hardworking contractors were losing bids not because of their ability, but because they lacked the systems, the numbers, and the support to compete at the next level. Some were being underserved. Some were being overcharged. Some simply didn't have anyone in their corner who had actually been in the trenches. South Bay Grading was built to change that.

Founder and Owner
With over 45 years in the construction industry, Shawn built South Bay Grading to give contractors the field execution and business infrastructure they need to grow. Trained under Grant Cardone and Brandon Dawson, he brings the same business strategies that scaled SBG directly to the contractors he works with. His belief is simple: every hardworking contractor deserves a real shot at building something bigger.
Allison Dean
Marketing Manager
Allison is the creative heart of South Bay Grading. She has a genuine passion for storytelling and a gift for connecting people, and it shows in everything she creates. Behind every campaign, every post, and every piece of content is someone who truly cares about the company, the team, and the contractors SBG serves. She does not just market a business.
